STAR OF ROMANIA MEDAL
AJBCC0029
Antique medal - "Order of the Star of Romania". Prince Carol I instituted it in May 1871 when Romania was proclaimed an independent state. The Order is in the shape of a Byzantine cross in dark blue enamel surrounded by gold gilt rays and a royal crown. It is inscribed "IN FIDE SALUS" with a gilt eagle in the center. On the reverse side is a raised gilt scrolled medallion with a crown and Roman numeral I. Our medal, Type I for an Officer, is the "Peace Medal" issued without the crossed swords above the Byzantine cross. It was part of the original high decree and would therefore be between 1877 - 1881. On a burgundy and green moire ribbon.
