WELSH FRATERNAL ORDER BADGE Large medal badge made for a member of "The Philanthropic Order of the True Ivorites". A Welsh society that assisted the poor (provided burial, sickness benefits). They started in the US around 1840 - were the precursors of the modern insurance companies. Local lodges existed until the late 1900's. Badge signed: "Made by the Whitehead & Hoag Co.
