CLOISONNE PRESENTATION VASES
Impressive pair of Chinese cloisonne presentation vases. These oversized pieces, more than three feet high, were traditionally used in temples and palaces. With floral patterns on a pale blue background, the six main center panels are designed with animal figures including foo dogs that symbolize protection and phoenix birds that symbolize new life. Ribbon decoration throughout also suggests that these vases had a sacred quality. Northern China, Hunan province, early 20th C.
