Of course Italy is all about romance… the romance of its antique treasures…
the romance of its irresistible food… L’Amore… life lived full and well… in cities with magnificent churches and monuments… Florence, of course… or in the hill towns of Deruta, Perugia and Todi with hard-to-find workshops… where they are still carving, sculpting, creating...

Today Italy is the combination of the old and the new… the riches
of the antique crafts of Venice…
the glass blowers... hand cut
Venetian mirrors… chandeliers and vases… versus the new…
innovative designs for fashion… furniture… the leathers… the cashmeres… the ability to preserve… the importance of quality…

I’ve traveled the country… from Venice to Sicily in the South… and love finding something that I’ve never seen before… I drive down the Amalfi coast… past lemon and orange groves with gardens right down to the water’s edge… I visit Capri… sit overlooking the sea in Positano… at night the lights shine on the dome of the church of Santa Maria
Assunta with its colorful Vietri maiolica tiles… it fills the heart!

I’m drawn to the carved marble
statues and fountains… gold gilt wood consoles... silver gilt grotto furniture… etched Venetian mirrors and crystal chandeliers… colorful trompe l’oeil pottery… polished pewter pitchers, trays and candleholders… with naturalistic designs that glow like old silver!

It’s old… it’s new… it’s crumbling… it’s reborn… it’s Italy…
it’s wonderful!!
